SCHOOL CAFETERIAS AND MEALS

It is the goal of the Oak Ridge Public Schools’ Food Services Department to become a partner in your child's education by providing nutritious, economical meals.  The meals served in our school cafeterias meet the nutrient requirements of the Recommended Dietary Allowances and the Dietary Guidelines for Americans as set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

FREE AND REDUCED PRICE MEALS

Free and reduced price meals are available for students from families who qualify for the program as established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  Families may qualify for benefits under the Direct Certification Process or they may complete an application.  Applications for free and reduced meal benefits are distributed at the start of school.  Applications may be obtained from the school office during the school year.

In applying for these benefits, families will be required to supply complete information regarding wages and other income of all household members, whether related or not.  The school district is required by law to verify a certain percentage of the applications.  If you are selected for verification, you will be required to submit documentation of your household income.

PAYMENT OF MEALS

Students are encouraged to pay for their meals in advance, either monthly or weekly.  Please send all lunch money payments on Monday (or the first day of the week if school is not in session on Monday).  Parents should send payment (cash or check) in an envelope with the child or children's name written on the outside.  Families are encouraged to keep meal account balances current and avoid charges.  (Should there be circumstances beyond your control prohibiting current balances, contact the school administrator.)  Payment can be made online via the school website under the school store tab found at the top of the page. Overdue meal balances will be rolled over each year and must be paid prior to the student receiving diploma.  The district may pursue legal action to obtain payment for unpaid balances.

Include the following on the envelope:

Child’s Full Name & Grade

Total amount enclosed

Free/Reduced Meal application:

Free/Reduced meal applications may be completed online through the TeacherEase student portal or in person at any school office.
