Parents, thank you for bearing with us through this first day back to school. We had some kinks to work through today as is the case with most first days back to school. We have adjusted so we can do better tomorrow. Today on the playground, we reviewed some basic playground procedures. The rest of this week, we will be teaching students four square and tetherball rules. We will open up the basketball courts this week and teach some of the games that go along with the basketball court. We will be rolling out the new games and equipment a few at a time to ensure all students understand the rules and all play with the same set of rules. Next week, we will teach basic soccer, and kickball. Thank you for being patient with us as we get the year up and running! We enjoyed seeing all the kids eager to come to school today!

Twelve members of the Oak RIdge FFA Chapter attended the Missouri FFA Associations “Food Insecurity Day” at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. The event is sponsored by Missouri Farmers Care. According to Missouri Farmers Care nearly 13 million kids in America are food insecure. Their research has shown in parts of Missouri one in three children face food insecurity on a regular basis. Based on this research, in 2017 Missouri Farmers Care started partnering with non-profit organizations and agriculture businesses to feed Missouri kids. Oak Ridge FFA members helped to pack over 150,000 meals that will be distributed to Missouri kids through existing food banks. The Southeast Missouri Food Bank is located in Sikeston and received a portion of the 150,000 meals to distribute to kids in southeast Missouri. Oak Ridge FFA member Carson Hahs attended the food packing event and said that it was a good experience. Carson stated, “I had a great time and was able to help feed kids. The event took place at the State Fair so I also had the chance to see all the exhibits that were set-up for the fair too.”

Welcome New Oak Ridge Staff
The Oak Ridge Transportation Staff met today and spent eight hours training on bus safety for the upcoming year. Thank you drivers!
Routes and times for the coming school year should be very similar to last year. If we suspect a student will have a different pick up time, we will call and notify you.
If you are new to the district, and need bus transportation to or from school, please call 573-266-3232 and talk to the transportation director, Sonia Wood. We will determine what bus number your student will ride and an approximate pick up/drop off time.
The Oak Ridge Open House will be August 18th from 3:30 until 7:00pm. Students can ask about bus routes at that time as well as bring in school supplies and meet teachers.
We can’t wait to see all the students back on the first day of school-August 24th!
Good morning BlueJays. Just a reminder that JH girls basketball starts on Monday, 8/15, from 330-530pm in the old gym. Players must have a physical on file or you can bring it with you to practice. If you have any questions please let me know.
